Editorial Policy

SmallBiz Stack publishes software comparisons for small business owners in the United States. This policy explains how we research, write and update our content.

Independence

Our recommendations are based on price, features, limits and fit for a given type of business. Advertisers and affiliate partners have no say in what we write, which products we compare or which product we recommend. We do not accept payment for reviews, rankings or changes to our content.

How we research and compare software

  1. Which products we include. We compare products that small US businesses commonly shortlist in a category, plus products that publish their prices clearly. We don’t include a product because a vendor asked or pays us.
  2. Where prices and limits come from. From the vendor’s own pricing page and official help documentation, linked in each article’s Sources box.
  3. When they were checked. Each article shows the date its prices were last checked. We recheck our most-read articles monthly and every article at least every six months.
  4. Quote-only vendors. Some vendors (for example ADP, Toast and Clover) only give quotes. We say so. Any figure we take from a third-party review is labelled “reported” and linked to that review; if we can’t name the source, we don’t use the number.
  5. How cost examples work. We state the assumptions (team size, monthly sales, billing period), use regular prices unless we say otherwise, and show the formula, for example “$49 + 10 × $6 = $109 a month”. Card fees, taxes and add-ons are listed separately.
  6. What is our own analysis. Price and feature tables are facts from the linked sources. Verdicts, scenarios and pros and cons are our editorial judgement based on those facts and, where stated, our own hands-on use.
  7. Price changes and corrections. When a vendor changes its pricing, we update the article and its “prices checked” date. Factual corrections are noted at the end of the article with the date.

Accuracy and updates

Every article shows a “Last updated” date. We review articles when vendors change their plans and at least once a year. If we find an error, we correct it promptly.

Corrections

Spotted something wrong? Email us via our contact page with the article link and the correction. We’ll verify it against the original source and update the article.

Use of AI tools

We use AI assistants to help research and draft articles. Prices, plan limits and features are taken from the vendor sources linked in each article, never from an AI tool’s memory, and every article shows when its prices were last checked. Jorge Trigo is responsible for everything published on SmallBiz Stack.
